Summer Glow | Organic Bronzer DIY

Summer is almost here, and it’s time to find that sun kissed glow that evokes long days at the beach followed by bonfires and starry nights. But with all the bummer side effects of too much sun exposure (wrinkles, skin cancer, ya know) – why not make your own healthy glow with this easy bronzer DIY. With a few simple and natural ingredients, create the perfect shade of sun-kissed for your skin tone. Bonus: when you wear this bronzer, you’ll look and smell amazing!

Note: Make sure you test the ingredients on your skin in advance of using the bronzer to avoid any potential allergic reactions. Some people with sensitive skin may not do well with cayenne (yours truly included).

Tools

  • Small mixing bowl
  • Empty airtight container

Directions

For lighter skin, use cornstarch as the base. For darker skin, use cocoa as the base. Start with your 1 tsp of the base. Add 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1 tsp nutmeg. Add cornstarch to lighten, or cocoa to darken. Mix and test until you find the desired shade for your skin.

For more reddish tones, add a pinch of cayenne or beet root powder for blush – but be careful as cayenne can irritate sensitive skin. To get the sparkly shimmer, toss in a pinch of mica powder. It can be hard to find in stores, but you can get it online.

Once all your ingredients are mixed, transfer to an empty airtight container. Use a blush or bronzer brush to apply. Contour cheekbones, forehead, and the bridge of the nose to get a natural looking sun-kissed glow.

Leave the bronzer loose, or add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and mix with your fingers to create a paste. Transfer the paste to an empty compact and let dry for a hard packed, portable bronzer.
